Trauma & Touch

a workshop with Sean Doherty

10.30 - 4.30 Sunday 1st December

at

Foxhill Forum, 31-33 Wolfe Rd., Sheffield, S6 1BT

There is a fast growing series of developments in the fields of neuroscience and biology about how stress negatively affects our health. While this is well known for complementary health care practitioners it is perhaps less known how shock processes can underpin stress, or inter weave with contemporary life issues to significantly reduce life capacity and often make us vulnerable to illness.

The workshop will briefly look at some of the physiology of shock and stress and highlight the importance of Porges's work on Polyvagal

Theory.

Some approaches to Shock treatment steer away from bodywork in case it is overloading. However other methods recognize the value of Body orientated practices in stabilizing and building resources from within. In the foreground of these methods is Peter Levine's Somatic Experience Therapy. It theoretically and pragmatically extends humanistic principles into skillful and effective Trauma therapy. The workshop aims to share simple and effective techniques relevant to working with stress and trauma.

On the workshop we will include simple do's and don'ts.

Sound and movement techniques.

Coherence and Centring.

Hands on skills.
